Thanks for checking out my blog

I've always seen the world as though I were looking at it through a camera, focusing on details or color and shape in my mind, and freezing moments that were special and dear to me. As a kid, the plastic viewfinder of my Kodak Instamatic seemed a natural way to frame my experiences and share them with others. Later, studying film and working in television revealed the power of using images to tell stories. And that's what I do today; tell stories of blossoming love, deep family connection, and momentous occasions though images framed in my minds eye.

If the work on my blog appeals to you, and think you might like to have me tell the story of your day, click the 'contact' menu above to let me know.

Thanks.

earl.

Top Ten Times 2!

This year I joined the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP), an exclusive worldwide group of top professional wedding photographers. It was honestly a little nervous-making entering their latest contest, as I would be literally be competing against many of the best photographers in the world. Today I was overjoyed that two my images placed in the Top 10 in two separate categories. Woo-hoo!

Below is my winning image from the First Dance Category. I just love when I’m in the right place to capture moments like this one:

And here is my winning image from the Venue or Location Category. Nothing like a dramatic sky to spice up a photo:

Congratulations as well to all the other winners as well. I’m honored to be recognized alongside your incredible images.

Wedding Preview: Suzanne & Rick at The Boston Harbor Hotel

This past weekend I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful couple, Suzanne and Rick, in some pretty spectacular spaces. Here are just a few of my favorite moments from their day.

Suzanne and her attendants had their hair and makeup done high above the city in the Rotunda of the Boston Harbor Hotel.

There was no mistaking the joy on Suzanne’s dad’s face when he saw his little girl in her wedding dress.

Rick patiently waited downstairs with his back to the hotel until Suzanne came up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. Then he turned and they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day.

A few quick portraits and Rick was off by trolly to the The Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Suzanne followed soon behind in the limo with her parents.

The heartfelt service was officiated by their uncle Richard and throughout it, a smile was never far from Suzanne’s face.

I was blessed to have my good friend, Maine Wedding Photographer Andree Kehn shooting with me. This amazing shot of the couple leaving the cathedral is just one of the fabulous images Andree captured that day.

The limo whisked Rick and Suzanne back to the BHH, where the Wharf Room had been magically transformed through the coordinated effort of their event consultant, Michele Mottola, working with the BHH staff,  Suzanne B. Lowell Lighting Design, and Winston Flowers

Suzanne’s father sabered (yup that’s a sword!) off the top of a bottle of champagne to get the festivities started in dramatic fashion and everyone in attendance danced the night away.

Off-Beat Back Bay Engagement Sessions á la ShootStyle

Me and five other members of ShootStyle team (Stacey DoyleJamie WexlerMichelle TurnerZofia Waig, and Andree Kehn) got together to try something a little different. We’ve been shooting a lot of fabulous women in fashionable wedding dresses, but we realized we’ve neglected the guys. So for our latest shoot, we grabbed a bunch of couples and headed downtown for a shoot that was part engagement session and part “trash the dress.”

Below are some of my favorite shots from the day. To see more amazing work, jump over to the Shoot Style fan page on FaceBook and peruse the other ShootStyler’s blogs!

The first couple I worked with, Jackie & David, were up for anything I asked them to do, and often took things a bit farther. They were a riot!

I only enough time to do a couple of setups with Rachel & Adam. Rachel, you might have noticed,  is a ShootStyle alumni, having modeled for us on our Elm Bank shoot. Adam was a great sport! Cheers you two!
