I've always seen the world as though I were looking at it through a camera, focusing on details or color and shape in my mind, and freezing moments that were special and dear to me. As a kid, the plastic viewfinder of my Kodak Instamatic seemed a natural way to frame my experiences and share them with others. Later, studying film and working in television revealed the power of using images to tell stories. And that's what I do today; tell stories of blossoming love, deep family connection, and momentous occasions though images framed in my minds eye.

Here is part two of Hannah’s Bat Mitzvah. You can really see the love, beauty and energy in the room that night.
Thanks again to Hannah and her family, Janie Haas Event Consulting, who designed and coordinated the event and Northern Lights Entertainment kept folks boogieing all night long.
I had the privilege of shooting Hannah’s recent Bat Mitzvah at Temple Isaiah of Lexington. We met in the morning before her ceremony for a few portraits, and the party took place that evening at the Charles hotel in Cambridge. It was an absolute pleasure meeting Hannah’s family and friends, and witnessing the love in the room – especially at the party.
That party was off the hook! The Charles’s ballroom was awash in vivid pinks and blues designed by Janie Haas Event Consulting, who designed and coordinated the event. Northern Lights Entertainment rocked the party with a DJ, MC, and dynamic hip-hop dancers who kept both kids and adults moving to the beat, at least when they weren’t enjoying the games. Daniel had a very special Bar Mitzvah–special because of the love his family showered him with, special because of the where the ceremony was held, and special because of the fantastic party that followed.
The Vilna Shul is a small historic synagogue nestled in between the brownstones on Beacon Hill. It is one of the oldest synagogues in the city. Its restoration is a work in progress, and the wear and tear on the building makes you feel a connection with immigrants who first built it. What a tremendous setting for a Bar Mitzvah ceremony!
The party was held at the EpiCenter, perhaps Boston’s most green building. The EpiCenter is also home to Boston’s Artists For Humanity. AFH provides inner-city teens with a safe place to learn entrepreneurship and get paid for their own creative work.
It was a joy working with Daniel and his family and friends all day. I’m especially honored to have been able to shoot his entire ceremony. It was a moving experience capturing the emotion of this day of transition.
Thanks to Michelle Schaufeld of The Day Of who kept things on track all day, Suzanne Lowell’s amazing lighting design, Hal Slifer who filled the screens with fun and touching video, and of course the whole team from Northern Lights Entertainment; they brought the party and kept everyone dancing their tokhes off all night!
