I was introduced to Arielle and Kavi through one of Kavi’s longtime friends, Maine wedding photographer and fellow ShootStyle member Andree Kehn. Andree couldn’t shoot their wedding as she was going to be enjoying the evening as a guest. Well she did manage to shoot some (nothing in version of the album of course) but then put her camera away and partied. See if you can spot her in the album!

Arielle and Kavi are the kind of people that you crave as friends. They’re hip and funny, love great food and have an innate sense of style. All of those qualities were abundantly apparent on their wedding day. They’re also incredibly generous. At a recent wedding show they agreed to hang out in my booth and show off their album. Even better, after the show they introduced me to some of Portland’s incredible dining options. I can’t wait to go back!

First up is Sarah and Jake’s wedding album.

I have to thank Sarah and Jake who were married last year at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Gardens at Elm Bank in Wellesley. They were a lot of fun to work with. They did a first look in the comically oversized chair in the kid’s garden there and had their ceremony in front of the mansion. I loved the dancing at their reception–everyone let their boogie loose!

Sarah and Jake also opted to have my photo booth at their wedding and the photos from it were hilarious–I had make them part of the album!

I also would like to thank the amazing photographer and fellow ShootStyle member Stacey Doyle . Stacey assisted me at the wedding but because of the competition I sadly had to refrain from using her photos for this version of the album. Sarah and Jake have them though!

The past week has been a crazy one for me. I spent the beginning of the week being inspired by some of the worlds best wedding photography out at the Wedding and Portrait Photographer’s International convention in Las Vegas. Then I flew home just in time to hang out with my local colleagues at the the Professional Photographers of Massachusetts (PPAM) annual convention. A highlight of PPAM’s convention is the Image Competition at which a panel of judges from across the country score and critique our Massachusetts membership’s prints, images, folios and albums. Albums are judged both for their technical and artistic proficiency, and how well they tell the story of the wedding day.

I’m honored and just tickled pink to announce that my album “Erin and Ed’s Farm Wedding” was presented with the highest recognition an album can receive, the coveted Court of Honor Award.

Fearless Photographers is a site that recognizes unabashedly bold wedding photography. The images selected in the most recent Fearless contest are truly amazing and were created by some of my favorite photographers. It’s an honor and a thrill to be counted among them.

How many wedding magazines do you have on your coffee table? C’mon be honest!

If you have more than a couple, chances are one of them is the latest issue of The Knot Boston. Open up to page 193 to check out JeeSoo and Joe’s colorful Menemsha garden wedding.  I featured more photos from their wedding a while back on my blog. You can see them here.

Yup, weddings are my first love, but I also occasionally shoot fashion. In fact it’s my fashion work that most heavily influences my Modern Intimates boudoir photography sessions. You can get a taste of the fashion side of my photography in the current issue City Living Magazine.

The article is the consummation of Cambridge writer Rachel Worrall’s vision for a project that combined her love of both fashion and literature. She enlisted four local designers to create couture dresses inspired by author Edith Wharton (best known for her book The Age of Innocence). Rachel then modeled the designers’ work in Wharton’s magnificent Gatsbyesque home, The Mount. The designers who participated were Kelsey Bacon at Bedagi Fashions, Barbara Poole at B-Felt and Julia Ebel and Meredith Ionelli both of Celtic Dragon Dress Designs.

The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) just announced the results of their Q3 2010 Contest. I’m thrilled to learn that one of my favorite photos from the past year placed in the top 20 in the Groom Getting Ready category. I love this photo because it shows a moment that is both amusing and authentic, and also really illustrates the relaxed nature of Aimee and Jason’s backyard Nantucket wedding.

Thanks for the early Christmas Present, WPJA!

The first winning image from the Getting Ready contest category was shot at Jacque & JJ’s Wedding Backyard Irish Wedding. This is one of those times where I saw the finished print in my mind as I was taking the the photo. I knew that to make it sing was going to require some additional processing to highlight her silhouette, eliminate some distracting elements, and control the color. I’m really pleased with the result:

The other winning image was in the Reception category. It was taken at Aimee and Jason’s Nantucket Wedding. Aimee did most of the design of the wedding herself, including finding a gorgeous Indian tent. When it came time for her and Jason to dance, I wanted to show them dancing under the stars.

The AG|WPJA is comprised of outstanding wedding photographers, who are at the forefront of the wedding photography industry when it comes to enhancing images. The chief objective of the AG|WPJA is to provide members with a platform where the finest enhanced, manipulated and/or artistic wedding photojournalism in the world is spotlighted.

Jason asked me to take some publicity photos for his new website. Here’s a few of them.

And of course, any post about Jason wouldn’t be complete without showing off some of his cuisine.

Trust me, Jason’s food tastes even better than it looks. Yum!

Looking at all the great pictures in today’s spotlight makes me want cake. I bet they planned that. Is it lunch time yet?

I was away for the past few days without a good internet connection and I saw that the winners for the Wedding Photojournalist Association’s (WPJA) Q4 2009 Contest had been announced. It was killing me to not be able to check out the results and when I finally got back to boston, it was the first thing I checked out.

I’m proud that one of my favorite photos from the past year placed fourth in the Wedding Details category. I’m especially happy that one of the judges commented on the moment-driven nature of the shot, which is what really makes it for me. Earlier this year, this image placed in the Top 10 in the First Dance category of contest by the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP).

I’m really happy I said yes when fellow ShootStyle member and Maine Wedding Photographer Andree Kehn asked if I wanted to help her out with this wedding!

This is the news that I’ve been building up to over the past couple of days. I’m just thrilled beyond belief to be able to announce that my album “Lake George Wedding” was presented with the Court of Honor Award for being the highest scoring album in the Professional Photographers of Massachusetts 2010 Print competition.

Wow!

In competition, an album is judged both on the artistry and technical proficiency of the individual images it contains, as well as how well those images combine to give the viewer a feeling for the way the day unfolded, and the personalities and relationships of the participants. That’s why I’m especially proud when my albums do well in competition, because I pride myself in telling a story with my images.
