Earl Christie Photography bio picture

Thanks for checking out my blog

I've always seen the world as though I were looking at it through a camera, focusing on details or color and shape in my mind, and freezing moments that were special and dear to me. As a kid, the plastic viewfinder of my Kodak Instamatic seemed a natural way to frame my experiences and share them with others. Later, studying film and working in television revealed the power of using images to tell stories. And that's what I do today; tell stories of blossoming love, deep family connection, and momentous occasions though images framed in my minds eye.

If the work on my blog appeals to you, and think you might like to have me tell the story of your day, click the 'contact' menu above to let me know.

Thanks.

Wedding Preview: Lake George–The Inn at Erlowest

Massachusetts is a great place to live and shoot weddings and I love being a Boston wedding photographer,  but I also find that traveling to new places energizes my creativity. For Kelly and Nick’s wedding, I travelled to the Queen of American Lakes, Lake George, New York.

With the help of their friends and family, Kelly and Nick separately spent the afternoon getting ready.

The evening’s festivities were held at The Inn at Erlowest, a Queen Anne style stone castle built in 1898 as part of “Millionaires Row”, overlooking Lake George.

The reception was a joyous, elegant affair with toasts by Kelly’s father, sister Maggie, and Best Man Rob.

Later in the evening, Nick and the groomsmen dropped a funk bomb on the room with tight set that got people out of the seats.

Wedding Preview: Martha’s Vineyard Beach Plum Wedding

There’s really no place in the country like Martha’s Vineyard; the landscape is beautiful, the people are friendly, and it has a unique casual vibe that one might not necessarily associate with New England. Although it’s close to Boston, and I’m a Boston wedding photographer,  I just don’t get down to visit the Vineyard enough. So you can imagine that when I get to work there, the job is an absolute treat. Another treat is working with a fun, beautiful couple like JeeSoo and Joe, who’s wedding I recently shot on the Vineyard. I was introduced to Jee and Joe by another Joe, my friend Martha’s Vineyard wedding photographer Joe Mikos. Seriously, if you are getting married on the Vineyard and want a photographer whose work just oozes awesomeness (and I’m booked of course :) ) you owe it to yourself to check out Joe.

Before getting ready, Jee let me borrow her gown to take some pictures. I was like a kid in a candy store! Sorry, I didn’t look at the designer, but I’m guessing it’s a Melissa Sweet. I am sure of the boutique though, as I was intensely focused while taking the gown out and putting it back in its protective Priscilla of Boston garment bag.

Beach Plum Inn Martha's Vineyard

The wedding was held at the beautiful Beach Plum Inn, which is cute little inn with spectacular views of  Menemsha harbor and the ocean. The Beach Plum also has a fantastic restaurant (seriously, I can vouch for that) that Jee and Joe like to frequent when they’re on the Vineyard. Though the inn is small, it has a ample grounds to host weddings, as you can see below.

After the ceremony, we traveled down the road to The Allen Farm Sheep & Wool Company to take some portraits and group shots. Jee and Joe really wanted their photos to feature a red 1950’s Ford pickup. How do you find and old red Ford pickup? Easy, first you hire a great event planner then ask her to find it. :)

Finding that truck was just one of the ways that Judy Murray of MV Event Planning helped make Jee and Joe’s wedding day special and stress free.

By now you’ve heard me say how much I like shooting with other talented photographers. At Jee & Joe’s wedding I was lucky enough to be working with South Dakota Wedding Photographer extraordinaire, Cory Ann Ellis. Working with Cory Ann is like a getting an entire box of Fruity Pebbles to myself. Why? Because she’s sweet to work with on the wedding day and later when I’m going through her photos, I come across surprises-in-the-box like the gem below:

On the way back to the inn, we made a quick stop at the 300 year old commercial fishing village of Menemsha. If you ask me, that boat doesn’t look a day over 250.

WPJA Award

My dad always told me, “son, strive to come in 7th.” He must be proud today.

The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) is a prestigious international organization devoted to upholding excellence in the area of wedding photojournalism. Over the past five years I’ve been lucky enough to have images place in number of their competitions. In their most recent competition, the image below image placed 7th in the special “Trash The Dress (TTD) Portrait”.

Award Winning Boston Wedding Photographer

Not only do WPJA judges take the responsibility of critiquing contest entries very seriously, they also have a sense of humor!

Previous winning images can be seen in the Achievements section of my WPJA bio page.

Congratulations to all the other winners as well. This competition wouldn’t be nearly as meaningful without the stiff competition of your incredible photography.
